The unveiling of cities. The sense of belonging and cultural diversity] Society and culture are two strongly intertwined realities even if they do not coincide. There is no society that does not have cultural production and there is no culture outside of society, of a system of social relations. The analysis of the city is useful because it allows us to also address issues that are partially distant from national consciences, such as those linked to internal and external migrations. Thus, in the richness and multiplicity of conceptions of the city, it is reasonable to find its distinctive features as well as its contradictions, which make the urban scenario also, but perhaps above all, a representation of human reality.

Photo-elicitation as a qualitative research technique has attracted considerable attention. It is generally agreed that photo-elicitation is not applicable to all topics, and it is seldom the researcher's only tool, however, there are substantial benefits when the topic is appropriate and when incorporated with other tools. Although receiving scant attention, photo-elicitation techniques can also be applied within the university classroom. With this lack of attention in mind, this paper will discuss the application of photo-elicitation techniques as a learning tool within university classrooms. Photographs can quickly introduce students to a large amount of visual data and when the photographs are strategically chosen can generate interest, reflection, propagate questions and generate quality classroom discussion. An objective of photo-elicitations within the classroom is to improve not only individual knowledge but also the collective knowledge within the classroom. This paper will outline a marketing lecturer's experiences of photo-elicitation techniques within the classroom. The paper discusses three broad areas: the justification for photo-elicitation; building photo-elicitation techniques into a teaching plan; and the presentation and analysis of student comments. From a technology perspective, photo-elicitation is now within the reach of most lecturers and students. Moreover, the widespread adoption of enabling technologies outside the classroom has increased the potential value of photo-elicitation as a teaching and learning tool.

Resumen
Como resultado de una monografía reciente sobre Políticas étnicas: entre el etnocidio y los derechos humanos (2025) con una selección altamente representativa de la población mundial (56,24%), considero de interés adelantar algunas reflexiones acerca de las tendencias, desafíos y perspectivas a nivel continental. En este caso Oceanía es el quinto paso para otros trabajos que deben sintetizar diversas cuestiones sobre la aplicación de políticas étnicas y la atención de los respectivos estados nacionales por la diversidad de su población y sus derechos, junto con la situación migratoria, medioambiental, laboral y cultural de esta parte del mundo. De manera operativa, se ha dividido el territorio en las siguientes áreas: Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia y Polinesia. Esto permite deslindar sus peculiaridades, contextos y diferencias entre los diversos países y regiones. Se valoran las tendencias no solo en su regularidad sino en su dinámica cambiante, los desafíos como planteamientos de problemas que pueden representar puntos de partida para su solución y las expectativas como ventanas de oportunidades para transformar realidades hostiles en posibilidades para el mejoramiento humano y la convivencia social mediante un desarrollo sostenible y compartido.

En una época donde el arte contemporáneo se ve cada vez más intervenido por las tecnologías digitales, el propósito del presente ensayo es hacer una crítica al monopolio del capital que impone su lógica mercantilista sobre los procesos creativos de los nuevos trabajadores que intentan resistir desde las producciones artesanales. A través de un análisis crítico, y por medio de una metodología abductiva, el presente ensayo intenta explicar cómo el aura de la obra de arte nunca dejó de estar presente incluso en los espacios culturales más periféricos. Si bien es cierto que el aura, como categoría estética, ha caído en desuso desde que Walter Benjamin la puso en entredicho, es importante señalar que su empleo nos permite entender que las piezas artesanales son productos que se resisten a ser parte de la narrativa hegemónica del arte contemporáneo. En este contexto donde la obra de arte se convirtió en un artículo de lujo, la labor del artesano toma fuerza como ejemplo de rebeldía frente a un sistema que tiende a precarizar al sujeto creativo.

Trauma is by its very nature an unnameable entity, one that defies language and instead exists in the realm of dreams, memories, and half-fictional shadows. Nonetheless, the events that form the aftereffects of trauma permeate Western media. As viewers of this media, by way of television, print and the Internet, we are all witnesses of traumatic events. This thesis addresses representations of trauma in contemporary art, with particular attention to their formation of the viewer as witness. Using a lens of trauma theory as a critical framework, an examination of the nature and reception of trauma in the work of contemporary artists Kara Walker and Walid Raad reveals how visual art can provide a complex language for communicating the many dimensions of historical and collective trauma. Since the beginnings of intercultural literary studies, ›foreignness‹ has been one of its basic concepts. Here it means an intense experience of difference, which at worst can turn into demarcation, but in the case of successful intercultural transfers is reduced and transformed into intersubjective understanding. In Aby Warburg's Lecture on Serpent Ritual (Kreuzlinger Vortrag; 1923), an intercultural cultural theory and poetics is already prefigured in the early 20 th century, which identifies the elements of ›foreignness‹ and ›fear‹ not as dialogically surmountable, but as basic anthropological constants. Their affective power can either inhibit human action or be transformed through art into cultural performances-that in turn connect cultures from different spaces and epochs. From Warburg's perspective, foreignness and affect thus do not prove to be culturally problematic per se, but in connection with aesthetic forms rather serve as starting points and transformative elements in (inter)cultural processes.

My comparative analysis of two major texts dealing with pre-Independence India produced by two European writers at the turn of the past century-I misteri della jungla nera (The Mysteries of the Black Jungle, 1895) by Emilio Salgari and A Passage to India (1924) by E. M. Forster-stems from the basic assumption stated in Lisa Lowe's 1991 seminal study on Forster's novel, namely the "ruling British perspective that traditionally considered India a colorful backdrop to the central British drama, and Indians as peripheral objects to be colonized and scrutinized rather than as possessing a point of view themselves." In Salgari's novel, this perspective will be challenged through the creation of a Hindu hero involved in a passionate love relationship with an English girl gone hybrid, while in Forster's plot, strictly set within the boundaries of Anglo-India, a Muslim co-protagonist ineffectually woos a forbidden object of desire, a young lady traveler from the mother country.

The film programme “If Cinema is a Weapon”, presented at the Batalha
Film Centre in Spring 2024, provided the set-up for a discussion on identity, power and resistance. From a post-colonialist perspective, the films revealed latent gestures that are intertwined with a demand for disappearance as a fundamental condition for questioning power structures.

Anthropologists working at home were, for a long time, considered
the poor cousins of their peers working abroad. Somehow they were
perceived to have failed the test of travelling out of the comfort zone of
their own society and grappling with a radically different other where the
real theoretical and ethnographic contributions to anthropology were to
be made. Anthropology at home was seen as an anthropology of social
issues, drawing anthropologists uncomfortably close to sociology, policy
oriented studies and applied research and away from the possibility of
theoretically significant contributions. Times have changed, however,
as has the discipline. I shall argue that research with fourth world
peoples is a distinctive, if limited, field of study which is likely to persist
for a considerable time yet and that it is fertile ground for social theory.
I will outline what I see as some of the theoretical issues central to this field in the coming decades.

This article deals with the question of how to conceptualize the human person as a living subject. The main difficulty consists on relating the single components of the human person to itself and to the external world. It is based on Margaret Archer's thesis about the shortcoming of modernity in dealing with the human person and the need for a new perspective. We need a new scientific paradigm to understand how the human person can be both dependent on society and autonomous, possessing its own powers. Modernity looks for possible solutions by adopting conflicting epistemologies. Archer proposes a conception of human person, from the perspective of social realism, which grants humankind temporal priority, relative autonomy, and causal efficacy, in such a way that human persons become social beings with powers of transformative reflection and action that they bring to their social context, powers that are independent of social mediation.

Since the 2010s, there has been an enthusiastic call for using multimodal methods in anthropological research. This call dovetails with the democratization of media production technologies that make the collection of data and the distribution of findings more accessible, particularly to audiences outside of academia. In this article, we suggest that archaeologists should recognise the limitations of the term “artefact”, because it does not capture the many ways that diverse groups think about and interact with such objects. There are two important reasons for doing this. First, as we show through numerous examples, archaeologists’ conception of portable material objects as “artefacts” is narrow and unlikely to align with the conceptions by the people who left them behind. Second, like the terms “prehistory” and “human remains”, “artefact” is a settler-colonialist construct that elevates Western scientific jargon above terminology that other stakeholders may see as more respectful or appropriate. As an alternative to the term “artefact”, this article explores “belongings” as a way to open up understandings of the many different meanings associated with archaeological objects and to refer more inclusively to them in diverse contexts.

In this essay, the authors offer the reader some photographs. They are images portraying women in the Bolivian Amazon in the early 20th century and in the contemporary Indigenous Chaco (Argentina), respectively. The photographs offer an analysis of the two extractive contexts (rubber in the Amazon and cotton in the Chaco) through the unseen gaze of Indigenous, European-white, Immigrant and Creole women. They have been completely marginalised and erased from ethnographic and historical sources. The photographs offer an unusual interpretation of the intersectional dynamics of class, gender and race.

The article pays attention to the children's book itself, reveals the features of the perception of A. Rackham's illustrations by children. It is shown that the art of the children's books arose at the end of the XIX century in England in the Victorian era during the Industrial Revolution and the formation of the middle class. The question is raised about the relationship of the illustrated book with children's perception, starting with the design of the cover and ending with the properties of the design and structure of the children's book. An attempt is made to discover the specificity of children's book illustration in terms of its purpose, cognitive orientation, figurative expressiveness and age differentiation. The conclusions allow us to talk about the multicultural phenomenon of children's books of the late XIX -the first third of the XX century. Аннотация В статье уделено внимание собственно детской книге, выявлены особенности восприятия иллюстраций А.Рэкхема детьми. Показано, что искусство книги для детей возникло в конце XIX века в Англии в викторианскую эпоху во время промышленной революции и становления среднего класса. Ставится вопрос о взаимосвязи иллюстрированной книги с детским восприятием, начиная с оформления обложки и заканчивая свойствами конструкции и структуры детской книги. Предпринята попытка показать специфику детской книжной иллюстрации с точки зрения её назначения, познавательной направленности, образной выразительности и возрастной дифференциации. Выводы позволяют говорить о поликультурном феномене детской книги конца XIX -первой трети XX века. I created the installation Atlas of Dreams, a series of artistic maps and audio recordings, to portray the emotional traces left by 145 dreamers when they narrated their memorable dreams in the cities of the Bay Area of San Francisco. I present the designing of the maps, highlighting the use of dérive, and art practice in the creation of an emotional landscape, and its contribution in making the ethnography interactive, emergent, and sensorial. A partir de narrativas de cenas cotidianas e fragmentos de casos clinicos, discutimos as implicacoes da permeabilidade entre um Centro de Atencao Psicossocial III (Caps) e o territorio para a estruturacao do cuidado, salientando aspectos que favorecem ou dificultam seu funcionamento como um servico aberto. Verificamos que, apesar de algumas contradicoes, ocorre uma ruptura com a nocao de fechamento no que concerne a espacialidade, a organizacao do trabalho e a producao das relacoes de cuidado. Nesse contexto, a interlocucao com territorios marcados por precariedades materiais e violencias estruturais interrogam a instituicao, seus supostos saberes sobre a loucura e suas formas de tratamento e convidam os trabalhadores a sair de seus muros, buscando construir com os usuarios saidas sempre singulares para o que os aflige em seus enlacamentos com o mundo.

When St John's conventual church was completed in the year 1577, 1 the appearance of the interior was significantly different to what one sees today [Figure 1]. In contrast with the exuberant embellishment it was simple and plain. The only possible accessories would have been a simple stone main altar with the mannerist style altarpiece depicting The Baptism of Christ by Perez d'Aleccio. 2 During recent conservation works, where the marble tiles were lifted, emerged the original stone steps that once led to the main altar at the back of the church. The significance of this discovery is the subject of this paper. Considering that most of the marble and gilded carvings took place in the seventeenth century it is evident that the presbytery had a very different arrangement.

In this article, the authors examine the global store design strategy launched by Starbucks in 2009 in the wake of the economic crisis, increasing brand dilution, and growing competition. They offer a visual-material analysis of the corporation’s efforts to create a global aesthetic grounded in locality, with an in-depth focus on meaning potentials of materiality and community found across the four store redesigns that were unveiled in Seattle, the coffee company’s hometown, and which functioned as prototypes for store design across the United States, Europe and Asia. ¿Producen nuevos constructos, que son parte del imaginario de la ecuatorianidad, el uso de las representaciones simbólicas, de los códigos y de los lenguajes del cine ecuatoriano posmoderno, desde procesos comunicacionales e identitarios de la sociedad ecuatoriana? Es el cuestionamiento que se realiza en el presente trabajo, para situar teóricamente el análisis en cuatro filmes realizados por: Tania Hermida, Camilo Luzuriaga, Sebastián Cordero y Víctor Arregui. El resorte para esta investigación principalmente es la identidad. En el capítulo I, se ofrece una panorámica de la identidad desde la modernidad hasta lo posmoderno. El capítulo II está integrado por formas de diálogo entre las teorías que construyen la identidad de cine ecuatoriano con las teorías analizadas en el ítem anterior. Se analizan los aportes cinematográficos de los realizadores Augusto San Miguel y Carlos Crespi en las primeras décadas del siglo veinte. En el capítulo III, el filme "Entre Marx y una mujer desnuda" del director Camilo Luzuriaga, se convierte en un texto semiótico y cultural para evidenciar desde el mensaje y el contenido como se mira la identidad construida en el metarelato moderno y posmoderno. El cuarto capítulo reivindica la presencia del ciudadano y del espectador en calidad de lector cinematográfico. "Ratas, Ratones y Rateros" de Sebastián Cordero y "Que tan lejos" de Tania Hermida son los texto fílmicos a decodificar. La investigación se complementa con un acápite sobre el sujeto y la ciudad posmoderna desde la visión de Víctor Arregui, director de "Cuando me toque a mí".

El videojuego es hoy en día un tema de especial relevancia para el desarrollo social y cultural del ser humano; a este respecto es muy ilustrativo el hecho de que en España, por ejemplo, el videojuego es la principal actividad de ocio, cuyo mercado crece año tras año a pasos agigantados. Por otro lado, la importancia de los mitos en la vida de los seres humanos es crucial. Este hecho no sólo se circunscribe a los tiempos ancestrales sino, sobre todo, al papel relevante que los mitos han ido adquiriendo con el paso de los años, hasta el punto de que se encuentran hoy en día de plena actualidad gracias a diversos soportes -artísticos y no artísticos-que les sirven de vehículo. El principal objetivo de este texto es reflexionar sobre el videojuego como un nuevo medio que actualiza el mito en cada una de sus manifestaciones -de igual forma que la televisión, el cine, la novela u otros ámbitos. Para ello se sirve de similares argumentos, elementos actanciales, etc.-para tratar de ofrecer una respuesta a las mismas preguntas esenciales -¿Quiénes somos? ¿Por qué estamos aquí? ¿Hacia dónde nos dirigimos?-que siguen sin resolverse. Dieses Editorial leitet in ein Schwerpunktheft ein, das mit seinen Beiträgen auf das nicht selten mit dem Schlagwort »Bilderflut« bezeichnete Phänomen der Omnipräsenz von Bildern in unterschiedlichen Bereichen menschlichen Lebens interdisziplinär Bezug nimmt und dabei immer auch auf die psychosoziale Rolle von Bildern und den mit ihnen verbundenen Bildpraktiken fokussiert. In den Geistes-, Kulturund Sozialwissenschaften haben Bilder in dramatischer Unterschätzung ihrer ganz eigenen Potenzialität lange Zeit vorwiegend zur Illustration von Texten gedient, ein Defizit, auf das dieses Heft reagiert. Für eine weitere Kontextualisierung der Beiträge wird zunächst die viel bemühte Metapher der »Bilderflut« diskutiert, sodann auf die ikonische Verfasstheit des Menschen und die Rolle von Bildern für dessen Selbstund Weltverständnis hingewiesen, sowie auf die Potenzialität ikonischer Kommunikation und (Selbst‑)Artikulation. Avec des enquêtes menées à distance des grands pôles mondiaux de la production phonographique, ce dossier renouvelle les perspectives sur les studios d’enregistrement dédiés à la musique. L’éventail des nouvelles configurations et interdépendances suscitées par l’informatisation du monde dans un espace diversement globalisé y est passé en revue : studios live historiques à Bamako et Abidjan, studios des beatmakers à Dakar, home studios à Montevideo, studios numériques pro à São Paulo, pocket studios dans la forêt amazonienne, field studios des anthropologues brésilianistes. La pluralité des approches disciplinaires et épistémiques mises en œuvre permet de penser ces studios comme des espaces des possibles dans lesquels s’élaborent des stratégies inédites qui contribuent à redéfinir les paysages sonores des Suds.

Висвітлено творчість сучасного художника Матвія Вайсберга на основі теоретичних основ взаємозв'язку антропології та мистецтва. У відповідності до поставленої мети обрано комплекс дослідницьких методик сучасного мистецтвознавства, що базуються на антропологічному підході до аналізу мистецьких явищ. Використання вказаного комплексу дослідницьких методик сприяло отриманню власних результатів. Наукова новизна одержаних результатів полягає у постановці і розробці актуальної для вітчизняного мистецтвознавства теми антропології мистецтва. Результати студіювання можуть слугувати важливою складовою історії мистецтвознавства. Висновки. Антропологія мистецтва постає як теоретична основа мистецьких практик, розглядає митця як соціальнозначущий феномен, що продукує внутрішню рефлексію на суспільні процеси. I focus on Pentecostal genres performed in the market space, a thick religiously plural environment. I look at the ways in which Pentecostal evangelizers (animateurs, a subcategory of the evangelizing ministry in Pentecostal churches) negotiate their public presence in terms of form and style; how they navigate the religious plural market space; and how this navigation is expressed discursively. I study different forms of textual mediation, and the ways in which Pentecostal publics are construed. My main argument is that part of the Pentecostal accommodation is the conscious selection of evangelizing genres that fit the performance context. Animateurs choose evangelizing genres in terms of the performance space. The innovative aspect of this chapter is the social significance of what I call “small Pentecostal genres”, seemingly banal discursive forms, that may escape the scholar’s analytic gaze because they are less dramatic and formalized than the more common genres such as sermons, gospel songs, and testimonies.
