Urban Sociology

This article explores how the meaning of citizenship is articulated and debated in the aftermath of the legal prohibition of the slaughter of cow progeny and making the sale or possession of beef a punishable offense in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. The prohibition illuminated contradictions between the cultural roots of nationalism as opposed to democratic citizenship and how the two are increasingly in friction with the rising popularity of the Hindu right. Public action and debate in the aftermath of the beef ban (as it came to be popularly known) bestowed multiple conceptions of citizenship in the light of profound social divisions providing for the space to seek political solidarity with other marginalized groups. Here, I suggest that paying attention to the subtler nuances of political action through a framework of solidarity as opposed to that of resistance can bring to light ways in which citizenship is debated and shaped in urban India.

Perspectives from five Black and Latino fathers of students with autism are shared from this qualitative pilot study. The fathers were asked to describe the most helpful forms of support from school counselors. One-time, semi-structured interviews were conducted and interpreted with the thematic analysis method. Results suggest support from other parents, and specifically from other fathers, with shared experiences is most helpful. Recommendations for school counseling practice and research are shared.

At the global level, the informal settlements are in a dichotomy of legal and illegal debates. This paper analyzes the issue of informal settlements from the legitimacy perspective. It reveals that, although the settlements are not in legal legitimacy, there is tendency of social legitimacy. The challenges of urban land governance are in how to minimize the gap between legal legitimacy and social legitimacy. Firstly, this paper explores on how the actions of government and non-government organizations contribute towards legitimacy. To achieve this aim, the analytical framework of “action space” is applied. Secondly, it focuses on identifying intervention strategies that narrow the gap between legal legitimacy and social legitimacy. İnsanoğlunun yeryüzünde ilk ortaya çıkışında kentlerde ya da yerleşik düzende yaşamadığı, avlanmayı öğrendikten sonra bu duruma geçtiği bilinmektedir. Daha sonra tarımın başlaması ile köyler ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu durum Taş devri'nin kapanması ve Yenitaş Devri'nin başladığının bir işareti olmuştur. Bununla birlikte yazının bulunması ile kentlerin ortaya çıktığı söylenmektedir. Ancak yazıya sahip olmayan kentlerin var olduğunu örnekler ile açıklayan çalışmalar bulunmakta ve kent ile yazı arasındaki bağı çürütmektedir. Toplumların avlanmadan tarıma daha sonra yazıya geçerek oluşturduğu kentlerden günümüzdeki kentlere ulaşmalarında işbölümü, sınıf ve katmanlaşma, uzmanlaşma, bilimsel gelişmeler, ticaret ve sanayileşme, teknolojik ve sosyoekonomik gelişmelerin payı olduğu ise kaçınılmaz bir gerçektir. İşte en baştan günümüze gelinirken kent kavramı incelendiğinde birçok farklı kent kavramları ile karşılaşılmaktadır. Bu bağlamda kent, "sürekli toplumsal gelişme içinde bulunan ve toplumun, yerleşme, barınma, gidişgeliş, çalışma, dinlenme, eğlenme gibi gereksinmelerinin karşılandığı, pek az kimsenin tarımsal uğraşlarda bulunduğu, köylere bakarak nüfus yönünden daha yoğun olan ve küçük komşuluk birimlerinden oluşan yerleşme birimi" olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Günümüzde ise kent profilinin teknolojik gelişme ve küreselleşme süreçlerinin etkili olduğu sosyoekonomik geçişlerden etkilendiği ve değiştiği görülmektedir. Bundan birkaç on yıl öncesinde her eve bir bilgisayar olayı bile insanlara ütopik gelirken şimdilerde internet gibi bilgi ve iletişim teknolojileri hızlı bir şekilde insanların yaşamlarına girmektedir. Küresel iletişimi etkileyen bu büyük gelişmeler önemli bir ekonomik ürün olarak bilginin değişiminin yapıldığı ve bilgiye dayalı ürünlerin üretildiği yeni ekonomik modeller oluşturmaktadır. İnsanoğlu artık bir bilgi toplumunun içinde yaşamaktadır. Bu durum ise karşımıza bilgi kentleri kavramını çıkarmaktadır. Yeni gelişen bir kavram olan bu kavram, bilgi yönetimi ve bilgiye dayalı gelişme alanında kentsel karar vericilerin ve araştırmacıların oldukça dikkatini çekmektedir. Kentsel gelişme alanında bilgi kentine dönüşüm modern kentin sürdürülebilir zorluklarına olası bir çözüm ve vatandaşların refahı ve rahatı için bir reçete olarak görülmektedir. Bilgi kenti, bilgiye dayalı ekonomiden yola çıkarak vatandaşlarına bilgiye ulaşımını kolaylaştıran bir kenttir. Bu bağlamda bu kentteki yaşayanlar geniş kütüphanelerden, kültürel ve sosyal faaliyetlere ve eğitim faaliyetlerine ulaşmada iletişim ve bilgi teknolojilerini kullanmakta ve bu faaliyetlerin içinde aktif olarak yer almaktadırlar. Literatür taramasına dayanarak yapılacak bu çalışmada bilgi kenti ele alınmaya çalışılacaktır. Bilgi kentine varılan süreçte kent kavramının geçirdiği değişimler, bilgi yönetimi ve bilgi toplumu kavramları ile birlikte incelenecektir. Toplumların bilgi toplumu olma yolunda ilerlerken oluşan bilgi kenti kavramı konu ile ilgili örnekler verilerek açıklanacaktır.

 ¿Cómo la implementación del SITM-MIO ha impactado a los jóvenes estudiantes universitarios cuando desarrollan sus actividades en el tiempo libre? En la Segunda parte del texto se desarrollarán los elementos conceptuales. Las Rutinas de Movilidad son un punto focal debido a que cada habitante de la ciudad de una u otra manera ha "tenido" que cambiar ciertos circuitos de desplazamiento para llegar a los diferentes destinos donde realiza sus actividades. Esta suerte de obligatoriedad en los desplazamientos individuales se presenta debido a la exclusividad del MIO sobre algunas de las principales vías de la ciudad. El desarrollo conceptual de las rutinas de movilidad es una elaboración propia basada en los planteamientos de autores como Manuel Castells, David Canter, Kevin Lynch Y Marc Augé. Asimismo, se discutirán las variables y conceptos a tener en cuenta cómo, rutinas de movilidad, impactos culturales, tiempos de desplazamiento, distancias recorridas, percepción del espacio urbano y el transporte, movilidad urbana y mapas mentales De la misma manera, para el concepto del Tiempo Libre y Ocio, se expondrá lo desarrollado por Joffre Dumazedier. Esto permitirá clasificar las diversas actividades que pueden desarrollarse en el tiempo libre en: actividades de, relajamiento, entretenimiento y desarrollo de la personalidad (cultural, social y recreativa). Igualmente, se cuenta con una investigación realizada por Sonia Muñoz para articular dentro del análisis las rutinas de movilidad, el tiempo libre y los jóvenes estudiantes universitarios al contexto local, la ciudad de Cali. Así se identificaran los lugares que los jóvenes caleños frecuentan.  Analizar los impactos de la implementación del SITM-MIO sobre los jóvenes universitarios cuando desarrollan sus actividades en el tiempo libre.

Do većine informacija dolazimo putem interneta i postoje razne aplikacije koje nam omogućuju lakše i brže učenje (npr. Duolingo za učenje jezika). Kako tehnologija napreduje, tako se digitalizirao novinski tisak, a kroz neko vrijeme počeo se širiti na sve dostupne društvene mreže, tako i na Facebook, Instagram, Twitter i ostale. Os debates sobre a urbanização no Sul Global têm sido um foco importante na pesquisa recente em estudos urbanos. A partir do contexto latino-americano, este artigo destaca uma lacuna na perspectiva econômica desses debates: a instabilidade que molda as economias periféricas com as quais as dinâmicas urbanas do Sul interagem. Argumenta-se que esse nível mais elevado de volatilidade econômica é um fator crucial para muitas dinâmicas urbanas/socioespaciais na América Latina, sendo, portanto, indispensável para uma compreensão teórica precisa das especificidades de suas cidades e processos urbanos. A aplicabilidade dessa ideia a outras regiões do Sul Global é uma hipótese que necessita de verificação e pode trazer implicações importantes para a pesquisa urbana atual. Além disso, propõe-se que as abordagens geográficas da precariedade sejam enriquecidas com a dimensão da volatilidade econômica, geralmente mais intensa em contextos (urbanos) precários.

In the context of the ongoing debates on the language and education policies of the Nation-State, and the political crisis that the Union and State governments precariously face in its implementation, this article invites us to critically rethink the promise of radical equality, and the question of experiential community through schooling in the context of a warring world. Questions of language, education, and caste are discussed through the ideas of contact and anti-contact zones, engaged multiplicity in an itinerant earth, and a proposal to consider schooling as a zone of symphony in a mobile world that is ready to face the sound of a trigger.

Günümüzde kentler tarihte görülmemiş bir biçimde eşitsizlikleri görünür kılmaktadır. Özellikle 1980 sonrası dönemde kentler, sermayenin yoğun baskı ve istilasına maruz kalmışlardır. Neo liberal politikalarla yeni ve karlı bir yatırım alanı olarak ele alınan kent, piyasanın ihtiyacına uygulan olarak dizayn edilmektedir. Kent yoksulları, bu dönüşüm süreçlerinden negatif etkilenen kişilerdir. Benzer bir çıkarım Türkiye'de yürütülen kentsel dönüşüm projeleri için de geçerlidir. Bu çalışma kapsamında kent yoksulluğu, mekânın dönüşümü üzerinden değerlendirilmektedir. Bu kapsamda önce kent yoksulluğunun tarihsel sosyal içeriğinin kısa bir taraması yapılmış ve neoliberal politikaların mekan dönüşümü üzerinden kent yoksulluğunun yeni durumu incelenmiştir. Böylece, kentsel dönüşüm sonrasında kent yoksullarının maruz kaldığı yeni sosyal dışlanma ve ayrışma süreçlerinin ayrıntıları ortaya çıkarılmıştır.

La question de la santé constitue, depuis toujours, un centre de l'intérêt récurrent pour les chercheurs. Ce sont plus particulièrement les médecins, biologistes, épidémiologistes, qui cherchent tous à comprendre les causes des maladies et les facteurs qui favorisent la bonne santé, qui y prêtent la plus grande attention. Quant aux anthropologues et sociologues, leur intérêt pour cette question a permis de renouveler les perspectives conceptuelles autour de la santé et de la maladie en établissant des relations entre les systèmes médicaux et de pensées et le mode de vie des populations (TREMBLAY, 1982, p. 3). Il est certain que les sciences sociales ont fait leur entrée dans le domaine de la médecine à travers l'analyse de la relation de soin existant entre le soignant et le soigné. Cependant, elles ont, surtout, marqué cette présence par l'intérêt qu'elles portent aux différents acteurs et au contexte social. Ces derniers sont désormais considérés, comme faisant partie des déterminants de la santé et de la maladie, car « les effets des déterminants de la santé se manifestent sur les individus, mais leur origine peut aussi bien se situer « au-delà » qu' « en deçà » de l'individuel ». (EVANS, 1996. P. 3) Evans évoque les déterminants de la santé et de la maladie « au sens large », c'est-à-dire qu'il s'agit de ceux qui vont au-delà des individus et des circonstances dans lesquelles ils naissent, grandissent et vieillissent, pour parler des systèmes politiques et économiques en place. Parmi ces déterminants, c'est l'alimentation qui est classée en premier, puisqu'il s'agit d'un élément étranger qui entre dans le corps humain et peut aussi bien le fortifier que l'affecter. Elle bénéficie d'un intérêt particulier de la part des différents chercheurs dans le domaine médical et, depuis peu, suscite également l'intérêt des chercheurs en sciences sociales : ethnologues, historiens, géographes, économistes, anthropologues, sociologues, psychologues et sémiologues. La recherche portant sur l'alimentation est souvent effectuée à partir d'une collaboration entre ces différentes disciplines. Cette interdisciplinarité a favorisé la construction d'une connaissance empirique sur l'alimentation et a permis, dans certains cas, de dévoiler l'impact des mouvements idéologiques et culturels sur la formation et la diffusion de la connaissance médicale. This paper looks at four specific issues from the ostensible constitutional framework provided in Deut 16:18–18:22: the installation of a professional judiciary, the two-witness rule, the central court, and the role of the prophet. My argument is that, with respect to each of these particular matters, one finds in Deuteronomy an ideal that mirrors what appears to be a corresponding ideal within the Neo-Babylonian legal and administrative system. Nevertheless, even the latter system – that of one of the most powerful and sophisticated bureaucracies in the ancient Near East – was unable to implement the measures necessary to achieve these ideals. It is reasonable to infer, therefore, that the authors of Deuteronomy did not necessarily expect a full implementation of their idealistic program but were seeking to push the political operations of their own time in the direction of their overarching aspirations

Przedmiotem refleksji w niniejszej pracy będą obrazy życia codziennego w PRL-u, które zostaną poddane analizie na podstawie wydanego albumu zatytułowanego PRL Grażyny Rutowskiej 1 oraz fotografii zgromadzonych i udostępnionych w zasobach Narodowego Archiwum Cyfrowego. Grażyna Rutowska była fotoreporterką i dziennikarką pracującą w redakcjach PRL-owskich gazet: "Dziennika Ludowego" 2 i "Zielonego Sztandaru" 3 . Dorobek Rutowskiej obejmuje 38 tysięcy fotografii (głównie z lat 1963-1988), które autorka przekazała w testamencie Narodowemu Archiwum Cyfrowemu. Fotografie Rutowskiej są świadectwem wieloletniej pracy i podejmowanych przez nią tematów. Należy podkreślić fakt, że były one publikowane na łamach prasy i służyły propagandzie reżimu komunistycznego. 1

The mortgage foreclosure crisis has affected millions of households around the country. Researchers and policy makers have begun to pay attention to the external costs that these foreclosures impose on surrounding properties and neighborhoods (Schuetz et al., 2008; Harding et al., 2009). But few have considered the collateral costs for children, who may, as a result of foreclosures, be forced to leave their homes, communities and schools. Moreover, even children whose families are able to stay in their homes may experience considerable stress from the foreclosure process.

Le present papier a pour objet la question du deficit de l’urbanite dans la ville algerienne. Si le deficit de celle-ci n’epargne aucun espace urbain, il est encore plus accentue dans les espaces peripheriques ou sont implantees la majeure partie des habitations collectives. En relevant les differents dysfonctionnements de ces espaces habites en matiere d’amenagement urbain et de « dispositifs materiels de l’urbanite », il met le doigt sur le deficit d’implication des principaux acteurs censes les prendre en charge et par consequent la mal-gouvernance urbaine. Con el concepto de autoridad moral, Durkheim consolida una peculiar concepción de sociedad y una propuesta programática para la sociología. En lo tocante a su noción de sociedad, avanza hacia una perspectiva de lo social entendido como orden moral-simbólico que se instituye y legitima merced al mecanismo de la autoridad. Desde este marco, configura un abordaje teórico encaminado a dilucidar las condiciones de validez normativa de las instituciones. Los límites de su propuesta se expresan empero en la presunción de un centro moral integrador y la subordinación del problema de la acción social a un proceso inscrito en marcos normativos, del que se desestiman sus dimensiones políticas. There is hardly any aspect of human life which is untouched by the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, who was considered the father of India. Like all his thoughts, Gandhi holds spiritual orientation in his economic conception as well. His economic conception advocates decentralisation, small-scale and cottage industries, economic equality, criticism of capitalism and excess of mechanisation. Gandhi criticised the Western mode of lifestyle based on materialism. Gandhi wanted to reduce the dependency of villages on cities and make them self-reliant and self-sufficient. He pointed out that everyone should earn his/her share of bread after rendering required labour only. His criticism of heavy industrialisation and capitalist economy is driven by the objective to ensure prudent utilisation of natural resources and to avoid the accumulation of wealth/property in the hands of a few. Like the conception of Swaraj, his economic conception also advocates for the upliftment of people at the grassroots level, like communism. Also, in no way did Gandhi wish to snatch away the property of the rich but distribute wealth voluntarily in his concept of trusteeship. In this review paper, various principles of the Gandhian model of economic development, such as critique of heavy mechanisation, trusteeship, decentralisation of the economy, Sarvodaya, Swadeshi, education, environmentalism and rural regeneration, and its relevance in the 21st century are explored.

Questo articolo fa parte di una rinnovata riflessione sulla periferia nell'ambito degli studi urbani del Sud globale. Il punto di partenza di queste note si basa sull'osservazione di un movimento duplice e intrecciato: da un lato la tendenza predominante negli ultimi decenni verso l'espansione periferica delle città in America Latina, dall'altro il crescente dibattito accademico sulla nozione di periferia e sul contributo che questo spazio/concetto può dare alla comprensione dell'urbanistica contemporanea. L'urbanizzazione periferica si riferisce qui sia a ciò che, da un approccio orientato agli attori, viene inteso come modalità predominante di produzione dello spazio urbano nelle città del sud globale in cui gli abitanti sono i soggetti centrali dell'urbanizzazione, sia, da un approccio orientato alla struttura, al modo in cui il capitale si sviluppa in modo disomogeneo nello spazio: urbanizzazione periferica quindi come un concetto di frontiera tra prospettive teoriche che, oltre a cogliere le diverse logiche di produzione spaziale, ci permette di comprendere la polisemia della periferia come luogo marginale della città, posizione subordinata nel sistema globale, relazione di potere asimmetrica e punto di vista che potenzialmente consente di destabilizzare le teorie eurocentriche della città .

In Police, Provocation, Politics, I explore the policing and resistance in Istanbul neighbourhoods, where racialized Kurdish and Alevi working-class communities have long resisted state oppression, racism and colonialism. I show how Cold War counterrevolutionary techniques still inform urban policing-not just in Turkey, but across the globe. Similar techniques were used by white settlers in South Africa during the antiapartheid movement, by the FBI against the Black Panthers in the United States, and by British security forces in Northern Ireland against the Irish Republican Army. The mechanics of policing, in other words, are both global and colonial. In Istanbul, I saw police officers encouraging violent activities of certain dissident groups even as they punished some peaceful activists. What could be the purpose behind these policing tactics? This kind of policing doesn't just aim for compliance. The tactics I saw seemed obviously and paradoxically unconcerned with crime prevention. Police, Provocation, Politics argues that policing isn't just about enforcing the law: it's also about managing, manipulating, and often dividing communities, especially those who oppose the established order, from within, to maintain control. In Istanbul, it's about keeping Kurdish and Alevi communities destabilized, ensuring that they remain fractured and making organized resistance very difficult. How do the police achieve this? One key strategy is by turning some segments of the communities into sources of insecurity for others within the same community. When insecurity originates from within, even racialized communities can feel the need for the state's security forces regardless of how oppositional they may otherwise be. That's why police presence in areas inhabited by dissident and oppressed populations goes beyond typical policing activities like patrols or arrests. Instead, police activity in Kurdish and Alevi neighbourhoods constitutes a system that doesn't just maintain order but, in some ways, intentionally disrupts it. It's an old strategy, one with roots in colonial and Cold War tactics: managing dissent is often about provoking internal conflict rather than stopping it outright. Despite these sophisticated strategies, I also saw incredible resilience. Neighbourhood residents had once tried to build a local socialist democracy in the 1970s, and the memory of that effort still fuels strong networks of support among young people in the neighbourhood. They founded a cooperative to help one another with university entrance exams; as a volunteer teacher at the cooperative, I saw the exciting educational activities they developed to help themselves transcend their class background. Similarly, many people remembered those who had lost their lives while fighting for justice. These "martyrs" serve as lasting symbols and as sources of "inspirational hauntings:" the memory of past struggles can motivate current and future generations to keep fighting against oppression.

The article develops the notion of affective verticality as a way of interrogating particular dynamics in affective arrangements in right-wing times. The gesture of elevation is key; it gives rise to a powerful claim to territory through affective presence, but also to grandeur and distinction. Concretely, the paper discusses the controversies surrounding two monuments recently installed in East Germany. In one case three buses were set up vertically in front of Dresden's Church of our Lady; in the other, 24 concrete slabs imitating the Berlin Holocaust Memorial were set up in the neighbouring garden of right-wing politician Björn Höcke in Bornhagen, Thuringia. Through the analysis of the local outrage and expressions of disgust in response to these implantations in a region branded 'Dark Germany', I propose affective verticality as an optics for reading particular dynamics in affective arrangements where the worry over decline and the longing for grandeur are especially enunciatedin short: a device for inquiring social and political enactments in right-wing times.

The #FeesMustFall movement in South Africa has pushed its universities to play a more developmental role in their immediate society. One of such roles is to provide training and development to its service labour that works for the university-the cleaners, security guards, gardeners and bus drivers. This chapter outlines how a university in South Africa shifted its mandate to begin servicing the training and development of this service labour as its contribution to the effort of reshaping higher education to be more involved in human development to address poverty and underdevelopment. This contribution expands the role of the university in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and indeed making society more equal and prosperous in the process. This approach also repurposes the university from being traditionally known as a place where professors just sit and theorise, to being a more horizontal and socially productive institution that cares about its local community and that recognises the value added by all its workers to its institutional transformation, development and sustainability.

This interdisciplinary conference explores the making of urban and religious worlds in and beyond the African continent, demonstrating the importance of African cities for analysing global dynamics of urban-religious transformation. We use Stephan Lanz's (2016) term urban-religious to emphasise the mutually constitutive relationship between urban and religious spheres-that is, how they are deeply intertwined with and shaped by one another. The notion of worlds captures the multiple ways in which urban-religious life is configured and envisioned. There is no singular model or enactment of the urban-religious; people live and move through multiple, overlapping urban-religious worlds. Worldmaking underscores the ongoing, unfinished character of these worlds: they are continuously made and remade-not only by planners, developers, and state actors, but also through infrastructures, ecosystems, technologies, desires, and memories. This processual framing foregrounds how ordinary residents actively participate in urban-religious worldmaking through everyday practices. Rather than treating African urban-religious worlds as isolated or exceptional, we adopt a comparative approach to examine transregional connections and commonalities between urban-religious formations across and beyond the African continent. In doing so, we aim to develop new conceptual tools for understanding global processes of urban-religious transformation. This conference thus invites researchers to analyse urban-religious dynamics across and beyond Africa through comparative and processual lenses, thereby enriching both urban and religious studies alike.

Praca dotyczy kwartału zabudowy zlokalizowanego w Poznaniu na Łazarzu (części administracyjnej dzielnicy Grunwald), autorstwa Maxa Johowa, jednego z czołowych architektów poznańskich początku XX w.. Teren zlokalizowany poza rozbieranymi wówczas murami miasta, przeznaczony został pod budowę reprezentacyjnych kamienic z mieszkaniami dla wysoko postawionych urzędników, wojskowych, lekarzy i adwokatów. Cały obszar podzielono nowo wytyczonymi ulicami na mniejsze kwatery. Wzdłuż ich boków wzniesiono ciągi kamienic. Nieodłącznym elementem kompleksu budynków, wzorowanych na rozwiązaniach berlińskich, stały się obszerne wewnętrzne podwórza oraz okazałe przedogródki -dziś przeważnie zaniedbane. Na lata 2006 -2012 zaplanowano realizację "Miejskiego Programu Rewitalizacji dla miasta Poznania", który obejmuje m. in. rewaloryzację zabytkowego zespołu urbanistycznego Maxa Johowa. Celem tych działań jest przywrócenie zespołowi zabudowy utraconych wartości architektonicznych historycznych kamienic secesyjnych oraz poprawa warunków zamieszkania. Podkreśla się przy tym konieczność wzrostu integracji lokalnej społeczności w działaniach na rzecz rewitalizacji.

Los extranjeros normalmente se mueven en un contexto de doble pertenencia comunitaria, desarrollando un doble sentido de comunidad SdC), hacía la comunidad de acogida y hacía su comunidad de origen. El SdC se refiere a la experiencia subjetiva de pertenencia a una colectividad y/o a un lugar como podría ser un pueblo o un barrio. Donde dicha experiencia está influenciada por la interacción entre los miembros de una comunidad. Tradicionalmente, la mayoría de los estudios, analizaban el Sdc de los extranjeros en relación con su comunidad de origen, en virtud de la similitud y homogeneidad que hay entre los individuos que comparten país/cultura. Mientras, el estudio del Sdc con extranjeros en la comunidad de acogidas son algo más reciente.

Woher kommt der Investor? Der Wortherkunft nach vom ‚Gewand' Wir verfolgen hier den Investor und sein Kommen durch verschiedene Kontexte. Das passt gut zum Investor, denn der Kontextwechsel ist in diesem Wort schon angelegt. Beim Investieren geht es ums Anlegen von Geld; näher an der Wortherkunft formuliert, geht es um ein ‚Einkleiden', gemäß dem lateinischen investire, von vestis für Gewand. Ein Investor gibt also Geldern, Mitteln, einem Engagement eine neue Form, eine Festform als Einbettung der (flüssigen oder virtuellen) Mittel, in diesem Sinn einen neuen Kontext. Da zeichnet sich also schon eine Affinität ab zwischen einerseits dem Investment als etwas, das über das rein (Finanz-)Ökonomische hinaus eine Einkleidung ist, und anderseits einem Wechsel in der Formgebung, in der Rahmung, auch in der ‚Inszenierung'. Investition kommt von vestis, Gewand. Weiße Westen, das spielt auch in unseren Überlegungen eine Rolle, eine Doppelrolle: zum einen als Plural-Ausdruck, der die Reputation, das öffentliche Image, zumal auch das von Investoren, betrifft, damit auch deren Inszenierung durch PR und deren moralische Bewertung; zum anderen aber auch als Singular-Ausdruck, denn der weiße Westen ist, wo die meisten unserer Referenzen platziert sind, wiewohl sie geopolitisch und ‚rassifizierter' Weise in Verbindung stehen mit anderen Orten und Gruppen, auf die sich weiße westliche Gewalt auswirkt. Westen als (Himmels-) Richtung hat eine andere Wortherkunft als die Weste, das Gewand (das ‚gewendete', edle Tuch), auch eine andere Herkunft als jene Wendungen/Versionen, die sich vom lateinischen vertere für ‚wenden' ableiten-von dem wiederum der Wert kommt: das Gewendete als ein Gegenüber im Sinn von ‚Gegenwert'. 1 Investor, Gewand, Wandel: Dass es mit dem Investor als einer ikonischen Figur der modernen, wesentlich vom Kapital und seinen Flüssen mit umgetriebenen, Geschichte etwas auf sich hat, davon zeugen schließlich auch kanonische Beispiele einer Theoretisierung von Geschichte, in der diese als ein Machtprozess verstanden ist, bei dem Wandel, Einkleidung und Investition Hand in Hand gehen. Das ist z. B. so in Michel Foucaults Vergleich der genealogischen Geschicht-der Geschichte, die in eine Vergangenheit investiert, indem sie sich diese aneignet-mit einem Karneval, bei dem eine Gegenwart sich jeweils neu einkleidet, kostümiert. 2 Oder schon früher in Karl Marx' Mischung aus Analyse und Ärger angesichts dessen, dass die politische Geschichte sich nicht an Gesetzmäßigkeiten der ‚Produktivwirtschaft' und ihrer Ordnungsabfolgen hält, sondern uns stattdessen die Macht im Staat und in der Gesellschaft als etwas präsentiert, bei dem wesentlich die Spekulation von Investoren-"Finanzaristokratie"-am Werk ist. 3

Pengembangan Kawasan Wisata Situ Tandon Ciater merupakan upaya untuk menjadikan kawasan wisata yang berwawasan Ramah Lingkungan. Dimana juga menjadikan kawasan wisata yang tidak hanya menyediakan fasilitas-fasilitas rekreasi untuk melepas penat, maupun mamacu adrenalin , seperti wisata outbond, wisata air, camping ground, playground, jogging track dan food court tetapi juga menyediakan fasilitas pembelajaran seperti, wisata edukasi pertanian, Workhsop daur ulang, dan bagaimana melestarikan lingkungan di sekitar yang ditujukan khususnya untuk warga sekitar Kawasan Wisata Situ Tandon Ciater. Jadi kegiatan pembelajaran yang diberikan berupa pemahaman bagaimana cara bercocok tanam, memanen hasil tanaman, dan juga bagaimana menjadikan bahan daur ulang menjadi suatu karya yang bernilai tinggi. Bangunan Pengembangan Kawasan Wisata Situ Tandon Ciater mengusung konsep desain Arsitektur Ramah Lingkungan. Konsep Arsitektur Ramah lingkungan adalah konsep sebuah kesadaran lingkungan arsitektur yang tidak hanya memasukan aspek utama arsitektur (kuat, fungsi, nyaman, rendah biaya, dan estetika), namun juga memasukan aspek lingkungan dari sebuah Green Building yaitu efisiensi energi, konsep berkelanjutan, dan pendekatan secara holistic terhadap lingkungan yang mencakup keselarasan antara manusia dan lingkungan alamnya. Jadi nantinya penerapan Arsitektur Ramah lingkungan pada masa bangunan yang ada didalam Kawasan Wisata Situ Tandon Ciater berupa material yang ramah lingkungan, pemanfaatan energi atau eksisiting lahan yang ada, dan juga tidak luput memberikan estetika bagi pemakai bangunan terutama fasilitas yang dikembangkan.

Gentrification, or the class-based restructuring of cities, is a process that has accrued a considerable historical depth and a wide geographical compass. But despite the existence of what is otherwise an increasingly rich literature, little has been written about connections between schools and the middle-class make-over of inner city districts. This paper addresses that lacuna. It does so in the specific context of the search by well-off middle class parents for places for their children in leading state schools in the inner city of Nanjing, one of China's largest urban centres, and it examines a process that we call here jiaoyufication. Jiaoyufication involves the purchase of an apartment in the catchment zone of a leading elementary school at an inflated price. Gentrifying parents generally spend nine years (covering the period of elementary and junior middle schooling) in their apartment before selling it on to a new gentrifying family at a virtually guaranteed good price without even any need for refurbishment. Jiaoyufication is made possible as a result of the commodification of housing alongside the increasingly strict application of a catchment zone policy of school enrolment. We show in this paper how jiaoyufication has led to the displacement of an earlier generation of mainly working class residents. We argue that the result has been a shift from an education system based on hierarchy and connections to one based on territory and wealth, but at the same time a strangely atypical sclerosis in the physical structure of inner city neighbourhoods. We see this as a variant form of gentrification.

La situation de la distribution d’eau potable en Guadeloupe est scandaleuse, car ce problème concerne depuis quinze ans l’ensemble de la population de "l’île aux belle eaux", nom original de l’archipel donné par les Kalinagos, premiers habitants de la Guadeloupe. Christophe Colomb qui "découvre" l’île lors de son second voyage, décide de débarquer à Sainte Marie, en Basse-Terre, à la vue des chutes du Carbet, visibles du large.
Autant dire que la chaîne de montagnes de la Basse-Terre, avec son point culminant du volcan La Soufrière haut de 1487 mètres est un château d’eau capable d’alimenter aujourd’hui les quelques 500.000 habitants de l’archipel. Seulement voilà, le réseau est troué de partout, les coupures longues et récurrentes ont dramatiquement perturbé la vie de tous les Guadeloupéens et ce n’est pas fini.
Ce réseau est très vieux, bricolé depuis l’origine par l’Etat colonial et néo colonial. Les mauvaises solutions matérielles ont abondé avec en plus des malversations et des détournements très nombreux et lourds dont les élus et responsables de réseaux d’aduction d’eau se sont rendus coupables. Ainsi Mme Lucette Michaux-Chevry ex-maire de Gourbeyre et ancienne présidente de Région Guadeloupe, ancienne ministre d’Outre-mer entre 2002 et 2007 a été reconnue coupable de détournements de fonds publics, mais exemptée de peine de prison car impotente et sénile car déficiente mentale.
Le président du SMEAG a été lui aussi condamné à trois ans de prison ferme pour détournements de fonds publics. Depuis quelques années, la situation s’améliore enfin, avec l’intervention de l’Etat.
Les experts estiment à plus d’un milliard et demi d’€ le montant de la remise à niveau du réseau d’aduction d’eau en Guadeloupe et même l’ONU a intimé l’ordre à la France d’agir en urgence. Le secteur privé a installé de

Er diskutiert und analy siert vier (familien-)soziologische Theorieansätze im Hinblick auf ihren Beitrag zur Erklärung des Altersunterschieds, entwickelt ein neues, handlungsbezogenes Analysemodell (ereignisanalytische odds ratios) und liefert einige empiri sche Ergebnisse, die theoretische Vermutungen untermauern, daß die altersbezogene Partnerwahl stark von den Heiratsgelegenheiten beeinflußt wird. 2 Als Homogamie bzw. Heterogamie wird (das Ausmaß der) Gleichheit bzw. Ungleichheit von Partnermerkmalen bezeichnet. Abweichungen von diesem weit verbreiteten Sprachgebrauch, die über das Phänomen hinaus auf einen kulturellen Verursachungsmechanismus abheben (etwa Berardo, Appel und Berardo 1993:95) oder den Homogamiebegriff auf psychische Ähnlichkeiten reduzieren (z. B. Jäckel 1980: 9), sind wenig zweckmäßig.

En articulant les approches relatives à la non-émergence de certains problèmes publics d’une part, et à la production de l’ignorance, d’autre part, cet article analyse les raisons de la faible construction de logements très sociaux dans une grande agglomération française, alors que ce besoin prioritaire est documenté et connu des décideurs locaux. L’observation directe des pratiques politiques et administratives, lors de l’élaboration du principal document d’orientation des politiques de l’habitat, éclaire les conditions institutionnelles et politiques d’invisibilisation et de non prise en compte des connaissances relatives au loyer trop élevé des logements sociaux produits au regard des revenus des demandeurs.
