This article analyzes urban change and food consumption in revolutionary Managua and during economic transition up to 1993. The Sandinista revolutionaries tried to establish new consumer ideals, ensure equal access to food for all Nicaraguans, and slow down urbanization. However, economic crises, the Contra war, conflicts over agrarian reform, and stagnating food production undermined their political project. This article demonstrates that the supply problems and internal contradictions of Sandinista food policy eroded support for the revolution. Social crisis and hunger combined with luxury consumption of some Sandinista leaders led to disillusion by the late 1980s. During transition, consumption became a time-consuming, frustrating experience. The urban poor had to rely on old survival mechanisms while the new elites revived US consumer ideals as a model.

This essay investigates the villetta as an exclusive place of privacy and domesticity, and where the nuclear family model becomes consolidated. The aim is to investigate the origin, evolution, and architectural typologies that have marked, and still characterize, a large portion of the Italian housing stock to understand its current impact and possible future uses.

This interdisciplinary conference explores the making of urban and religious worlds in and beyond the African continent, demonstrating the importance of African cities for analysing global dynamics of urban-religious transformation. We use Stephan Lanz's (2016) term urban-religious to emphasise the mutually constitutive relationship between urban and religious spheres-that is, how they are deeply intertwined with and shaped by one another. The notion of worlds captures the multiple ways in which urban-religious life is configured and envisioned. There is no singular model or enactment of the urban-religious; people live and move through multiple, overlapping urban-religious worlds. Worldmaking underscores the ongoing, unfinished character of these worlds: they are continuously made and remade-not only by planners, developers, and state actors, but also through infrastructures, ecosystems, technologies, desires, and memories. This processual framing foregrounds how ordinary residents actively participate in urban-religious worldmaking through everyday practices. Rather than treating African urban-religious worlds as isolated or exceptional, we adopt a comparative approach to examine transregional connections and commonalities between urban-religious formations across and beyond the African continent. In doing so, we aim to develop new conceptual tools for understanding global processes of urban-religious transformation. This conference thus invites researchers to analyse urban-religious dynamics across and beyond Africa through comparative and processual lenses, thereby enriching both urban and religious studies alike.

Early modern Istanbul, the Ottoman Empire’s capital, was a major urban center well-known for its large religious complexes and bazaars, a masonry architecture of lead-covered domes still enduring. In contrast, the residential architecture was mostly timber-framed, and due to the material ephemerality in fires, little is known about and left of the city’s residential neighborhoods. This article considers the Phanar waterfront—the neighborhood of a group of Greek Orthodox Christians known as Phanariots—as a significant exception to this urban historiographical enigma. The article visualizes the data on Phanar semi-masonry houses in historical sources with digital three-dimensional (3D) tools as it documents, reassembles, and investigates the neighborhood’s main street. Taking the mid-nineteenth century as a hallmark of reliable representation and diachronic analysis, the article aims to demonstrate digital 3D reconstruction as a scholarly method for documenting and researching lost urban heritage.

Konsep Arsitektur Ramah lingkungan adalah konsep sebuah kesadaran lingkungan arsitektur yang tidak hanya memasukan aspek utama arsitektur (kuat, fungsi, nyaman, rendah biaya, dan estetika), namun juga memasukan aspek lingkungan dari sebuah Green Building yaitu efisiensi energi, konsep berkelanjutan, dan pendekatan secara holistic terhadap lingkungan yang mencakup keselarasan antara manusia dan lingkungan alamnya. Jadi nantinya penerapan Arsitektur Ramah lingkungan pada masa bangunan yang ada didalam Kawasan Wisata Situ Tandon Ciater berupa material yang ramah lingkungan, pemanfaatan energi atau eksisiting lahan yang ada, dan juga tidak luput memberikan estetika bagi pemakai bangunan terutama fasilitas yang dikembangkan.

Despite the paucity of dermatology practices in the Central Harlem (CH) community in Manhattan, very few studies have been done to understand this occurrence. This ecological study will identify factors such as, geographical location, race, socioeconomic status, health care and medical education, as reasons why there is a disparity between the dermatology services in the CH community versus the Upper East Side (UES) of Manhattan. From May to July 2019, the patient population in the Central Harlem dermatology practice, Uptown Dermatology, was observed and in this time frame 20 patients were seen at the site, during the research hours, which amounted to 60 patients a week. In this time patients would remark that their community lacked dermatology services. Thus, it was reasonable to hypothesize that there were social and health disparity factors that attributed to this sentiment among patients, and this project aimed to identify those contributing disparities. Cet ouvrage est une invitation à découvrir le fonctionnement et l'essor de la triade consulaire composée des consuls, des établissements consulaires et de leurs territoires d'inscription, physiques et symboliques, dans la régence ottomane de Tunis, en couvrant la période allant de la construction de la première maison consulaire (1660) à l'avènement du protectorat français (1881). Porté par une démarche novatrice, faisant appel tant au regard de l’architecte qu’aux connaissances de l’urbaniste et de l’historien, l’auteur invite le lecteur à la découverte des maisons consulaires européennes de la médina de Tunis et des campagnes environnantes . Aux espaces géographiques s'ajoutent des espaces symboliques où se joue une guerre subtile, celle de la conquête de privilèges témoignant du rang de l’État et de son prestige.

UDK 930.22 282(091) (093) Zamisao da se započne sa sustavnim istraživanjem Tajnog Vatikanskog arhiva proizašla je od djelatnika Odsjeka za povijesne znanosti (nekada Zavod za povijesne znanosti) Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti i Hrvatskog državnog arhiva. Gotovo cijelo desetljeće trajao je rad na istraživanjima (definiranje, prikupljanje, selekcija, prijepisi izrada kritičkog izdanja), od začetne ideje 1987. godine do objelodanjivanja zbirke 1996. godine. Izdavači knjige su, pored dvije gore spomenute ustanove, Kršćanska sadašnjost i Papinski hrvatski zavod Sv. Jeronima u Rimu. Višestruki razlozi koji su ponukali autore na sustavno prikupljanje i prezentiranje grade iz Tajnog Vatikanskog arhiva naznačeni su u Predgovoru (5-7) ovoj zbirci izvora. Ponajprije, autori su bili potaknuti spoznajom da povijesna povezanost hrvatskog naroda sa Svetom Stolicom traje u neprekinutom slijedu već tisuću godina. Posljedično, ove veze rezultirale su ogromnom, pored ostalih veza, pismenom prepiskom, ali se do sada "nije pristupilo sustavnom objavljivanju toga nadasve vrijednog arhivskog materijala" (5). Ova prepiska sastojala se od pisama papa, molbi i izvješća hrvatskih biskupa i opata, a sačuvana su svjedočanstva o vizitacijama hrvatskih biskupija ili samostana, o imenovanjima hrvatskih nadbiskupa i biskupa, isprave o uplatama pristojbi, te niz drugih dokumenata. Isprave koje se čuvaju u fondovima Tajnog Vatikanskog arhiva, napominju autori, ukazuju na trajnu uključenost hrvatskih prostora i hrvatskog naroda u kršćansku europsku uljudbu. Uvodnu studiju (9-53) u ovu zbirku izvora napisao je Josip Barbarić. Autor na početku razmatra postanak, razvoj, funkciju i rad najstarijeg ureda Papinske kurije -Apostolske komore "koja je vodila brigu o novčanom poslovanju Crkvene države"(9) pa se od kraja XII. stoljeća svi podaci o novčanom poslovanju unose u zasebne registre. Autor naglašava da je temeljna funkcija Apostolske komore bila briga za državne prihode i vođenje financija Rimske crkve. Slijedi kratak prikaz administrativne strukture i razvitka Komore tijekom srednjeg vijeka. Složeno financijsko poslovanje bilježeno je u posebnim knjigama Prihoda i Rashoda (Introitus et Exitus), potom su nastale knjige za desetine, prihode ispražnjenih nadarbina, prokuracije itd. Slijedi prikaz prihoda Apostolske komore kroz srednji vijek. Tako, na primjer, autor navodi da, ako je neka nadbiskupija, biskupija ili opatija imala godišnji prihod veći od 100 zlatnih forinti, nadbiskupi, biskupi i opati su morali plaćati opću pristojbu za imenovanje u visini trećine godišnjeg prihoda. Potom autor objašnjava prihod od anata koji je uveden u vrijeme pontifikata Klementa V. 1306. godine, prihode od desetine, te dragovoljno podavanje i prinos iz ljubavi zvan subsidium caritativum. Na koncu ovog dijela uvodne studije autor napominje da se često postavlja pitanje da li financijske knjige sačuvane u Tajnom Vatikanskom arhivu omogućavaju cjelovit i točan uvid u novčano poslovanje Papinske kurije. Budući da financijske knjige sadrže samo one podatke koji su se morali opravdati, te da su postojali i tajni fondovi -privatne papinske kasekoje su povremeno bile i uništavane, ove knjige daju djelomičan uvid u financijsko poslovanje Papinske kurije. U drugom dijelu uvodne studije autor razmatra pitanje općih pristojbi za imenovanje crkvenih prelata (servitia communia). Najprije objašnjava sadržaj Knjige pristojbi ili Liber taxarum, napominjući da je ona "vrelo iz kojeg se mogu crpsti gospodarski pokazatelji pojedinih biskupija odnosno opatija u srednjem vijeku"(15). Drugi važan dio općih pristojbi zabilježen je u Knjigama obveza ili Libri obligationum. In the first part of the article the author examines the factors that influenced the significant increase in the number of private documents written by notaries from the second half of the thirteenth until the end of the fifteenth century in all communal centres on the Eastern Adriatic coast – from Poreč to Kotor. In contrast to the period from the ninth to the beginning of the thirteenth century, when private documents were recorded exclusively for individuals belonging to the elite layers of Eastern Adriatic urban societies, the period of the last decades of the High Middle Ages and the entire period of the Late Middle Ages was characterised by continuous growth in the number of private documents for both male and female, poor and rich, citizens and inhabitants, the domicile population and foreigners. O neomalthusianismo na propaganda libertária ADVERTÊNCIA A análise da propaganda neomalthusiana em Portugal foi o objectivo deste trabalho. Situada numa zona de intercepção temática tão rica e diversificada onde se cruzam a educação, a sexualidade, a questão social, o militarismo, a influência religiosa, etc, esta justificação ideológica duma atitude perante a procriação mereceu-nos a atenção devida a um dos elementos constitutivos da cultura, que um movimento social transformador como o do operariado de então não podia deixar de gerar. O período mais activo e mais rico da propaganda neomalthusiana é o que decorre desde o início do século até à guerra. Razão por que, embora existam vestígios da sua acção nos anos posteriores (até aos anos 40), não prolongámos a pesquisa para além daquele marco. A guerra, ao provocar divisões no movimento operário pelas tomadas de posições pró ou contra que originou (internacional e nacionalmente), e ao mobilizar parte dos seus elementos, actuou como travão da agitação operária. Porque foram os libertários os mentores da corrente neomalthusiana em Portugal, interessar-nos-á particularmente o estudo do seu lugar na propaganda anarquista. Tal opção não exclui, no entanto, a necessidade de conhecer as reacções de outros sectores da sociedade portuguesa, como os republicanos, os socialistas ou as feministas. A análise demográfica e a das modificações culturais, que o estudo das «técnicas da vida» pode permitir, estão fora dos nossos propósitos. Da mesma forma, não nos debruçámos mais do que o estritamente necessário sobre as políticas populacionais do Estado. A nossa análise será essencialmente sociológica e privilegiará os meios escritos da imprensa e da actividade editorial.

A lo largo de este trabajo mostramos los aportes que en el área de la investigación histórica de la ciudad de Valladolid de Michoacán obtenemos a partir del aprovechamiento de las herramientas que cotidianamente empleamos aquellos profesionales cuya área del saber está ligada al rescate, restauración y conservación de nuestro patrimonio cultural edificado. Arrancamos con el levantamiento integral de los datos de este inmueble de valor histórico patrimonial–como parte inicial de un proceso metodológico– buscando complementar su reconstrucción histórica en una temporalidad que cubre los siglos XVIII, XIX y las primeras décadas del siglo XX; ello, antes de tan siquiera pensar en tocarlo físicamente.

Archives, objets et images des constructions de l'eau is a collection of 21 essays, arising from a conference organized by the Centre d'Histoire des Techniques du Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers and the Musée National de la Marine, in December 1999. The conference and volume were founded on a growing interest in the history of technology and they aimed to exploit the inter-disciplinarity and multi-disciplinarity necessitated by studies in this field. Hydraulic constructions and installations were chosen as a lens through which to study technology in the past, because of the great importance of water supply, transport and technology to people in all communities and all periods of the past (and present). The main focus is on France, although there are contributions on Polish and Russian/Ukrainian history; all periods, from the middle ages to the present day, are covered, although the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries have pride of place. The contents will be of greatest interest to historians of technology and of material culture; there is, however, a strong urban component in the collection, and the essays most directly relevant to urban historians will be described here. There is a useful introductory essay by the editors, on heritage resources and research directions for water constructions and technology. The volume is then divided into four sections. Primacy is given to the use of material evidence, buildings, models and pictures as well as texts, in studies of water construction. Section 1 is on 'Hydraulic construction in national collections' and comprises papers on material evidence and heritage sites, museums, archives and waterways. Two essays may be of interest to urban historians: Frédérique Chapelay's piece on the construction of a dry dock at Toulon in 1774-8, using evidence from models kept in the Musée National de la Marine, and that by C. Demeulenaere-Douyère and M. Lardit, on the archives of the Académie des Sciences. The Académie had an important role commissioning competitions as well as judging proposals and technical projects in the eighteenth century; the authors take the case-study of schemes for improving the water supply to the growing Parisian population, to show the nature and uses of their archive.

Z u s a m m e n fa ssu n g : Der Beitrag untersucht den Altersunterschied zwischen Ehepartnern. Er diskutiert und analy siert vier (familien-)soziologische Theorieansätze im Hinblick auf ihren Beitrag zur Erklärung des Altersunterschieds, entwickelt ein neues, handlungsbezogenes Analysemodell (ereignisanalytische odds ratios) und liefert einige empiri sche Ergebnisse, die theoretische Vermutungen untermauern, daß die altersbezogene Partnerwahl stark von den Heiratsgelegenheiten beeinflußt wird. 2 Als Homogamie bzw. Heterogamie wird (das Ausmaß der) Gleichheit bzw. Ungleichheit von Partnermerkmalen bezeichnet. Abweichungen von diesem weit verbreiteten Sprachgebrauch, die über das Phänomen hinaus auf einen kulturellen Verursachungsmechanismus abheben (etwa Berardo, Appel und Berardo 1993:95) oder den Homogamiebegriff auf psychische Ähnlichkeiten reduzieren (z. B. Jäckel 1980: 9), sind wenig zweckmäßig.

Balkan topraklarının Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndan ayrılmasından sonra hâkim milliyetçi yaklaşımların şekillendirdiği tarih yazıcılığı, uzun yıllar Osmanlı dönemini yok sayma veya Balkanların tarihi içerisinde ona bir yer vermeme yolunu tercih etmiştir. Bu sebeple XX. yüzyılın son çeyreğine kadar bölgenin Osmanlı dönemi şehir hayatına dair çalışmalar bir elin parmaklarını geçmeyecek sayıdadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı dönemi Balkan şehrini konu edinen çalışmalardan örnekler sunmak ve üç ülkeyi esas alarak bölgeye yönelik literatürdeki tartışmalarda öne çıkan temayülleri değerlendirmeye tâbi tutmaktır. Coğrafyanın genişliği ve incelenen dönemin uzunluğu, Osmanlı dönemi Balkan şehirleri ile ilgili tüm çalışmaları kapsamamıza izin vermemektedir. Konuyla ilgili olarak bölgenin yerel dillerinde yazılmış önemli ve çok sayıda eser olmakla birlikte, değerlendirmenin genel okuyucuya hitap edebilmesi açısından çalışma, uluslararası alanda tanınmış eserlerle sınırlı tutulmuştur.

Focusing on the social effects of modernisation, this paper examines the emergence and development of the criminal ‘underworld’ of Budapest as it grew into a metropolis during the first decades of the 20th century. The brief analysis examines how the press and police raids contributed to stigmatising certain urban areas and social groups as criminals, thus helping to map the supposed ‘imagined’ crime geography of the Hungarian capital. By analysing detailed case studies, the research highlights the role of police raids in maintaining public order and enforcing social control, while also revealing the symbolic power of these actions to influence public perceptions of danger and morality in metropolitan settings.

Книга посвящена истории Новосильско-Одоевской земли, средневекового образования в верховьях Оки, которое во второй половине XIII — начале XIV в. выделилось из состава Черниговской земли и к XV в. достигло статуса великого княжения. Географический охват — большая часть современных Тульской, Калужской, Орловской, в меньшей степени отдельных частей Московской, Тверской, Смоленской, Брянской, Липецкой и Рязанской областей России, а также Черниговской и Сумской областей Украины. В поле зрения новосильской истории попадает судьба всего Верхнего Поочья, Чернигово-Брянской епархии, местных князей, бояр и духовенства, частично соседних государственных образований, а также отдельные эпизоды жизни некоторых ордынских ханов и ряда князей московского и литовского княжеских домов. Книга написана не с позиций Москвы, Литвы или Польши, что уже имело место в историографии (внешнее освещение истории Верхнего Поочья), а с верхнеокской точки зрения, как бы с позиций князей новосильского дома (белёвских, одоевских и воротынских), их родственников и ближайших соседей. Это история «земли», князья которой обладали значительной степенью самостоятельности во внутренних делах и во внешних сношениях. При этом находилась в зависимости от Орды (после ее распада от Крымского ханства), а географически оказалась между двумя гораздо более крупными державами — Великим княжеством Московским и Великим княжеством Литовским. Такое положение дел сказывалось на политическом и конфессиональном устройстве всего региона и отражалось на отношениях новосильских князей внутри своего рода. Под действием внешних сил со стороны Москвы, Литвы и Орды (до начала XV в. также частично Рязани, Твери, Смоленска) и в связи со своими родственными отношениями новосильские князья и иные местные феодалы вступали в те или иные союзы, объединялись для решения общих задач. Однако разнонаправленные политические течения в регионе заставляли их склоняться на ту или иную сторону, что порой приводило к политическим противоречиям в светской и церковной жизни, к расколам в их семействах, разрывам давно налаженных связей, разделению территории, а в особенно острые периоды и к ущербу для местного населения. Такое положение дел продолжалось до утраты новосильскими князьями остатков прежней самостоятельности, превращения верхнеокского региона в «украину» между Москвой и Литвой, а затем поглощения его и всей бывшей Черниговской земли Великим княжеством Московским в конце XV — начале XVI в.

Povijesnome i pomorskome muzeju Hrvatskoga primorja Rijeka nalaze diplome kojima carevi Ferdinand II., Ferdinand III. i Leopold I. potvrđuju povlastice isusovačkomu samostanu u Rijeci. 1 Do izdvajanja je navedenih cjelina došlo na dosad nepoznat način i u nepoznatome trenutku, što se u budućnosti mora utvrditi. Kako bi se sagledali i razumijeli posjedi i imovina isusovaca u Rijeci, potrebno je vratiti se unatrag do vremena prije njihova dolaska u Rijeku i prve godine njihove prisutnosti ondje. Inicijator dolaska isusovaca u Rijeku bio je riječki gradski magistrat koji je 5. ožujka 1623. godine poslao generalu reda Vitelleschiju molbu da se isusovci nasele u Rijeci kako bi ondje preuzeli na sebe školu, jer su dugo vremena imali problema s učiteljima. Ta inicijativa naišla je na podršku senjsko-modruškoga biskupa Ivana Agatića (rodom Riječanina) te cara Ferdinanda II., jednoga od najgorljivijih nositelja protureformacije u srednjoj Europi. 2 Potonji podržava isusovce u njihovu misijskom i odgojno-obrazovnom radu, u čemu vidi sredstvo za sprečavanje širenja protestantizma te im za potrebe budućega kolegija već 1625. godine prepušta prihode od polovice riječke desetine koji mu pripadaju. 3 Potpora Habsburgovaca djelovanju Družbe Isusove očituje se možda ponajbolje u podatku da su isusovci na području Kuće Austrije do sredine 17. stoljeća otvorili čak 14 kolegija. 4 Uz zajamčenu financijsku podršku Ferdinanda II., koja je već i prije dolaska isusovaca u Rijeku osigurala dio sredstava za rad, gradski im je magistrat zaključkom Velikoga i Maloga vijeća od 16. kolovoza 1627. godine osigu-1 Postoje sumnje da se dio gradiva riječkih isusovaca nalazi u još dvije baštinske ustanove u Republici Hrvatskoj. Međutim, o tome bez potvrde na ovome mjestu nećemo pisati. 2
