This study empirically examines the impact of telecommunication infrastructure on economic development of Pakistan by using time series. Data has been taken for the period from 1968-2007. Economic development was taken as predictand. While teledensity and investment in telecommunication sector were taken as predictors. By using the multiple regression model in log-linear form, we obtained the results (co-efficient given in the text) in which both variables eledensity (62.27788) and investment in telecommunication sector (79.66789) showed their positive and significant impact on economic development. This study helps to conclude the importance of telecommunication infrastructure in economic growth.
Communication is an integral part of human life. From the very beginning of human civilization people were tried to communicate each others to fulfill their social needs. Over the passes of time though the tools of communication were changed but still it is exist in the society. Currently cellular phone has brought a revolution in the field of communication. Telecommunication makes the whole world in a small village and by using this service life become more comfortable and easier. This sector plays a vital role in the economy of Bangladesh occupying the top positions among others. But recently this sector faces some crisis related to governmental SIM tax, corporate tax and also the competition in the market. For these reasons, last few years both governmental revenue as well as the growth rate of subscribers is decreasing. If the Government take necessary steps beside the privatization, the sector could move forward quickly, which will also help Government to generate the revenues and create job opportunity.Keeping all these issues in consideration, this paper discusses the present condition of the telecommunication sector of Bangladesh (which give special emphasis on the cellular phone) , what are the major challenges faces by the operators, and also tries to find out the prospects of this sector. It also provides a set of recommendations based on this analysis. The study is explanatory in nature which is based on extensive literature review and secondary data sources.

This paper investigates whether investment on ICT leads to higher economic growth considering Bangladesh case for the period 1997-2013 using linear regression analysis. Though statistically not significant, positive association between ICT investment and economic growth has been found. This lack of significance of result can be attributed to smaller share of ICT investment in GDP and shorter time span available for the country than required for conducting rigorous statistical analysis. Besides presenting a comprehensive picture of the current status of ICT indicators in Bangladesh, the study has also tested the comparative position of SAARC countries in terms of major ICT indicators. Findings reveal that Bangladesh is lagging behind in most of these indicators.Complementary infrastructure development, training on ICT, collaboration with international specialists, export promotions of ICT products and services etc. are some recommendations made here to uphold the effectiveness of ICT...

This paper examines econometrically the relationship between Telecommunication Revolution (TR) and economic development in three developing countries (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and India) through period from 1990 to 2011. It measured (TR) by ER) in the three countries. The result of estimation shows that telecom revolution has a positive and significant effect on economic development in both Egypt and India, but the relationship is weak in Saudi Arabia, except with the effect of mobile cellular telephone subscribers having a positive effect on some economic development indicators such as Growth Rate of GDP, and Exchange Rate, and Command Factor and negative relation with unemployment and inflation rate). This in turn supports the hypotheses of the paper. Where telecom revolution leads to reduce unemployment and inflation in Saudi Arabia, but this result is not achieved in other two countries of the study.
Importance of telecommunication on economic growth of an economy is known to all. In this study The role of telecommunication technology which is measured in terms of tele-density is investigated on the economic growth of Assam over the time period 2001-2017. Here different sectoral components of economic growth like industry, manufacturing, service and banking & insurance is also taken into consideration to explore the causal relationship between these with tele-density of the state. For this Granger-Causality test has been applied and desired outcomes are attained. Moreover structural breakpoint analysis is also done to see whether any structural changes occurred in the relationship among the variables under study. Results are also found that policy changes in the national and state level has brought about the structural changes in the variables over the time period.

In this study, we investigate empirically the relationship between telephone penetration and economic growth, using data for developing countries. Using 3SLS, we estimate a system of equations that endogenizes economic growth and telecom penetration. We find that the traditional economic factors explain demand for mainline and mobile phones, even in developing countries. We find positive impacts of mobile and landline phones on national output, when we control for the effects of capital and labor. We discuss the associated policy implications related to improvement of telecom penetration in developing countries. JEL Classification: O47, O57, L96, H54
