Semiotics

The ancient Egyptian and ancient Chinese writing systems represent two of the most sophisticated and complex scripts of antiquity. Although these systems developed independently, both employ semantic classifiers—
unpronounced signs that categorize and contextualize their associated words. This study examines the semiotic functions of semantic classifiers in these two scripts, highlighting their similarities while also addressing
their distinctive features. The analysis is conducted through multiple lenses, including the positional distribution of classifiers, the parts of speech they classified, their interchangeability, instances of multi-classification, and the semantic relations between classifiers and their host words. Furthermore, particular attention is given to the unique role of classifiers denoting concepts of “missing ability” or “deficiency.” The article concludes with a comparative discussion of Semantic-Semantic compounds (referred to as huìyì in traditional Chinese grammatology)
and their capacity to generate pictorial scenes within compound signs in the ancient Egyptian and ancient Chinese writing systems.

Este trabalho procura aproximar as Ciências Cognitivas da Semiótica de Peirce na tentativa de compreender as dificuldades apresentadas por estudantes na apropriação de processos de representação envolvidos na aprendizagem de conceitos relacionados à Química Orgânica. Busca-se, a partir do acompanhamento de disciplinas de Química Orgânica em cursos de graduação, identificar e interpretar processos cognitivos que envolvem percepção, interpretação e construção de representações estruturais a partir da semiótica de Peirce. Os resultados indicam que dificuldades de ensino e de aprendizagem em Química Orgânica não são devidas apenas a aspectos conceituais, mas, também, têm forte relação com os aspectos representacionais.

Cet article commence par préciser la portée sémantique de la notion de rythme, et par dresser un bref panorama de ses occurrences dans les discours esthétiques sur le cinéma – que ces derniers émanent de réalisateurs ou de critiques/théoriciens. Cela permet de souligner la grande diversité des acceptions qu’a prise cette notion, en lien avec les contextes historico-culturels qui encadraient ses formulations respectives.
Une attention particulière est portée à la contribution décisive que livre Jean Mitry, dans son ouvrage Esthétique et psychologique du cinéma (1965). Anticipant le mouvement de redécouverte du rhuthmos héraclitéen, Mitry tente de dégager le « rythme visuel » de ses analogies métriques « platoniciennes » (comme production d’équivalents visuels aux rythmes-cadences de la musique, conception particulièrement en vogue dans les années 1920, dont il souligne l’incohérence en termes ontologiques et psycho-perceptifs) pour le penser comme l’organisation, par le montage, d’un flux inscrit dans le mouvement global du monde visible à l’écran. L’enjeu pour Mitry est en fait de réfléchir à une conception du rythme cinématographique qui en ferait un « pouvoir signifiant principal », le principe primordial de l’organisation de la « vie des formes » cinématographiques.
Cette conception dynamique et cosmogonique du rythme sous-tend notre approche de l’espace cinématographique, non comme un cadre stable et figé, mais comme une substance en évolution perpétuelle, un matériau intrinsèquement mobile de la composition, engageant le corps spectatoriel dans une épreuve essentielle du mouvant. Ce que nous appelons « rythme spatial du visible » n’est donc pas un équivalent pour la vue du rythme-cadence de la musique, mais un ressenti du mouvement dans la forme : un flux de contractions et de dilatations affectant les volumes de plein et de vide au sein du défilement continu des images.
Ce lien intrinsèque entre le rythme et l’espace nous conduit à retrouver la « musicalité », non comme transposition pour l’œil des principes de composition musicale, mais comme puissance d’abstraction nichée au principe même du cinéma (et compatible avec la nature narrative et figurative de ses images) : une musicalité spécifique au cinéma, en somme, plutôt qu’un simple jeu de correspondances ou qu’une importation des procédés de composition de la musique au sein de ce dernier ; une musicalité qui, à rebours de toute référence picturale statique, nous invite à retourner à la source rythmique de notre expérience spatiale du monde courant.

El vínculo entre investigación y publicidad surge en el marco del desarrollo del capitalismo industrial, cuando las empresas comienzan a necesitar información sistemática sobre los consumidores para orientar sus estrategias de mercado. Inicialmente, esta relación se consolidó a través de la adopción de técnicas cuantitativas provenientes de las ciencias sociales y naturales, tales como encuestas, censos y estadísticas, utilizadas para segmentar la demanda según variables sociodemográficas. A medida que se intensificaron la competencia y la diversificación de la oferta, se hizo necesario acceder a dimensiones más profundas del comportamiento del consumidor. En este contexto, surgió la incorporación de enfoques cualitativos, que permitieron explorar deseos, creencias, emociones y estilos de vida. La publicidad dejó entonces de ser una mera herramienta informativa para convertirse en una forma de producción simbólica, orientada a la construcción de significados y vínculos emocionales con los productos. Este giro metodológico no solo transformó el modo en que las empresas se relacionan con los consumidores, sino que también redefinió el lugar del conocimiento social dentro de las dinámicas del mercado, abriendo interrogantes éticos sobre el uso comercial de las ciencias humanas.

This research is a descriptive qualitative research on semiotic field. The subiect of this research is a poster series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a movie adaptation of the same title semi-animated children book by Jeff Kinney. The data consists of a teaser poster and a theatrical poster of the movie film derived from Cinemags Movie Magazine and 20th Century Fox. This research aims to analyze semiotic signs from both posters by identifying icon, index, symbol, code, language, and myth following Saussure's, Peirce's, Danesi's, and Barthe's theories on Semotics. The result of the analysis presented 8 semiotic signs (4 on each poster) with the detailed analysis of signs, icon, index, symbol, code, and myth on each signs.

The idea of narrative hybridity was central to the work of the Russian literary theorist Alexander Veselovsky (1838Veselovsky ( -1906)), particularly to his unfinished work Historical Poetics. For Veselovsky and the Russian theorists who followed him, including Mikhail Bakhtin and Yuri M. Lotman, the boundary rather than the center is the site of hybridization and thus literary and cultural transformation. This article argues that this model of hybridization on the border can point in the direction of a synthesis between the theoretical impulse of contemporary attempts to conceive of a world literary system, with their scale and their concern with models of circulation, and those of postcolonial criticism and creolization theory, with their focus on hybridization and literary and cultural transformation on the periphery and mistrust of centripetal accounts of literary and cultural history. The article examines how Veselovsky's account of the role of narrative tradition and narrative hybridization on the periphery demonstrates the potential of geographic borderlands and periods of historical transition and borderline genres and is a useful touchstone for the work of scholars arguing for the redefinition of traditional understandings of center and periphery in literary history.

Este artículo ofrece una descripción de los principales componentes de la relación entre la semiótica visual y sus aplicaciones al diseño gráfico. Sobre esta base teórica se propone un modelo de articulación estructural para el análisis y creación de imágenes en diseño gráfico.

В этом эссе Уильям Клиффорд исследует природу реальности и сознания через понятия объекта, эджекта (eject) и разумо-вещи (mind-stuff). Он выдвигает идею, что вся материя, включая физический мир, состоит из элементарных единиц опыта — того, что он называет «материей разума» или разумо-веществом. Сознание, по Клиффорду, возникает не из особых субстанций, а из сложной организации этих базовых элементов. Morante's vast use of plurilingualism in La Storia has been described as ideological (Garboli, Baldacci) as well as populist (Mengaldo). In this novel, unlike in her previous writing, the linguistic variations are not only present in direct and indirect speech but also in the narrator's voice. Interestingly, when analysing History: A Novel, as translated by William Weaver, published by Knopf in 1977, we can see that the language has undergone a flattening process and the dialectal and regional choices carefully and consciously made by Morante are not taken into consideration in the English translation, which is lacking this linguistic code-switching. My article will attempt a brief analysis of a few extracts, by comparing source and target text, and by considering what theoretical approaches and methodologies the English translator preferred.

A definition of intelligence in terms of the computational principles by which a sentient being may make sense of a universe structured according to the nilpotent universal computational rewrite system (NUCRS), with an infinite universal alphabet as discovered by Rowlands and Diaz, is briefly set out. This alphabet defines the semantics of quantum mechanics in terms of a universal grammar, such that the nilpotent generalization of Dirac's quantum mechanical equation is the computational machine order code. Investigations underway show that this discovery not only provides a fundamental semantic foundation for universal quantum computation, but is the likely keystone of a fundamental computational foundation for mathematics, quantum physics, the genetic code / molecular biology, neuroscience and an evolutionary cosmology. The NUCRS is a universal organizational principle, which provides well determined testable models, some already in agreement with experiment. These show that the structure of the cosmos, the genetic code, the human brain, and human language, correspond to quantum mechanics, as determined by the generalized nilpotent Dirac equation D(N) and the complementary semantic theory of quantum holographic pattern recognition specified by the 3 dimensional nilpotent Heisenberg Lie Group. The two nilpotent representations correspond to the required division of the universal nilpotent quantum mechanical state space (NQM) into its Clifford / fermionic and Lie / bosonic parts, where the 3D Heisenberg Lie algebra defines NQM Heisenberg uncertainty and, remarkably, a dual so that under the right circumstances this duality is the means by which to compute holographically, as, for example, in magnetic resonance imaging machines (MRI). We postulate that the NUCRS's power to be able connect to such significant ideas as nonstandard analysis over the surreal numbers fields, Wheeler's meaning circuit, the cosmological holographic principle, quantum holography, anticipatory computation and quantum thermodynamic machines, shows it to be an Evolutionary 'Anthropic' Semantic Computational Principle, by means of which a sentient being is able to comprehend the rules by which Nature is apparently structured.

Resumo: Apoiando-se em teóricos como Bakhtin, Fiorin, Barthes, Koch e Travaglia, este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a linguagem da sedução envolvendo os contos de fada em anúncios publicitários. Para tanto, buscase traçar um paralelo entre a presença da intertextualidade e do conhecimento de mundo do interlocutor como fator determinante para o entendimento da propaganda. Partindo desses conceitos, será feita a análise de quatro anúncios publicitários da campanha Contos de Melissa, buscando-se explicar como a junção desses elementos constrói a campanha analisada.

This paper presents zoosemiotic research as a useful field of study for investigating the relationship that culture has with myths concerning non-human animals. In particular, this work aims to analyze and explore ecological patterns of snakes through three distinct myths of different civilizations, such as Greek (the myth of Caduceus), Aztec (Quetzalcoatl), and Amazonian (Yacumama), and interspecific relation with humans and their culture. An analysis of how mythological narratives belong to an ecosystemic understanding of cultures' relationship to their environment from an epistemological and biosemiotic perspective will be offered. The aim is to show how myths express a form of knowledge embodied in the environment through narrativity and non-human life forms.

The statistics both command and belie attention. In our culture, adolescents are facing a time of crisis-though probably not the crisis that you think. All of the traditional markers thankfully indicate health; for the past several years, rates in adolescent pregnancy, abortion, suicide, and mortality have all been in decline. 1 More youth are in school than ever, more have a positive outlook on their future, and more are involved in the civic process. However, it is not only these quite measurable "hard" statistics that determine health. There are other phenomena-we will call them soft categories-which defy simple quantification and are therefore usually not put forward in popular discussion of the present state of adolescence. And the colors of these soft categories do not paint a rosy picture.

The story of Javanese script are spoken by hereditary that contains the character of educational values implicitly. This research aims to analyze the semiotic meaning and the implicit character educational values in the story. Source of data this research is Seneng Maca Aksara Jawa published by Percada. This research used descriptive qualitative method and used semiotic approach by Charles Sander Peirce. Data were obtained by reading text story of Javanese script and then analyze about sign, meaning of sign, and the character of educational values in it. The findings of the research showed: (1) the legend of Javanese script delivered by icons, indexes, and symbols, (2) the semiotic meaning of story of Javanese script contains character educational values, namely: religious, hard work, democratic, curiosity, recpect for achievement, love of peace, social awareness, and responsibility. The character educational values in the semiotic meaning of story of Javanese script were relevant with the values which established by Ministry of National Education. Moreover, it can be benefitted as contextual materials based on character of education in learning process of Javanese language appropriate with the Curriculum of 2013.

of the baptistery. Apart from mosaics and sculpture/
reliefs that were used to decorate churches, this motif
decorates most often capitals, altar columns, friezes
and cornices of churches. The representation of the
vine contains several symbolic meanings, which have
a textual basis in the Old and New Testaments: For
the prophet Isaiah, 5:1-7, the vine represents the
people of Israel; for the prophet Hosea, 10:1, it is the
seed of Israel; in Psalm 80:8-11 the vine symbolizes
God’s people and victory over the pagans; in the
Gospel according to Matthew, 21:33-41, the vine
represents the Kingdom of God, and in the Gospel
according to John, 15:1-5, the vine symbolizes Christ
himself, whose father is the vine, and the faithful are

This book is a study of nine picture books for children ranging in age from 0 to 9 years old. The conceptual framework follows Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar (2004) (henceforth, SFG) and Kress and van Leeuwen's Visual Social Semiotics (2006) (henceforth, VSS). The main objective is to "identify the verbal and visual strategies used by writers and illustrators… to convey a representation of reality, to create interaction with child-readers and to form coherent wholes of communication" (257).

We noticed that when workers try to explain their mathematical practices to inquisitive outsiders, breakdowns in communication arise. We present here an example in which a worker spontaneously uses metaphors and models to facilitate explanation and communication. We analyse these, drawing on Lakoff & Johnson (1999) and Lakoff & Nunez (2000) in substance and theoretical approach. We suggest that metaphors and cultural models ground associations between academic and workplace discourse genres, and point out how sensori-motor groundings of the 'basic' metaphors may afford gesture and image-schema which free discourse from formal mathematical language. In general we see breakdown repairs as being built through cultural models that extend beyond local mathematical genres which situate mathematics within academic or workplace contexts.

This article examines temporality from a semiotic perspective, as a quasi-linguistic system of signification, shedding light on the rudimentary elements of the "language" of time and the way both individuals and societies use them in their "speech." It first explores how people manipulate various dimensions of temporality (e.g., duration, speed, frequency, timing) as virtual semiotic codes through which they manage to convey various social messages (e.g., about priority, importance, commitment, respect, intimacy, informality) without having to articulate them verbally. It then proceeds to show that this schema of symbolic relations between the temporal and the social seems to operate not only at the microsocial level of interpersonal relations but also at the macrosocial level of societal politics. Using the Jewish Sabbath, the Christian Lord's Day, and the French Republican calendar as case studies, it examines the way "temporal contrasts" are used to substantiate and accentuate social (conceptual, cultural, and political) contrasts. The article introduces the "semiotic quadrangle," the use of which enables the student of symbolic communication to view meaning as a function of an entire system of symbolic associations at both semantic and syntactic levels. Culture, according to semiotics, is a communicational system consisting of variou messages conveyed by and to members through the use of certain codes Lvi-Strauss 1966). Language is clearly the prototypical semiotic code, yet, ever sin Saussure (1959, p. 16; Barthes 1968, pp. 9-11), it has been regarded by semiotics as only one of many such codes, and linguistics as merely one branch of the science of "semiology" that ought to encompass all of them. Space tourism is considered as a type of tourism that is becoming increasingly significant and is expected to be in greater demand in the future. Therefore, the aim is to analyse the posters on space tourism created by NASA via semiotic analysis, a strategy of data analysis. In accordance with the set objective, a document analysis technique was used. Since the fourteen posters used for the study were created by NASA, a major organization in the field of space, it was selected as an appropriate sample. The space tourism posters identified in the study were analysed through the model developed by Ferdinand de Saussure and Roland Barthes. Each indicator showed that the utopian posters were closely related to the types of tourism. Notre intervention montre l’apport qu’une discipline comme la semiotique peut offrir aux etudes de terrain d’une designer-chercheuse dont l'objet est la place de l'individu dans la gestion du risque inondation en France. A la fois pour la recherche fondamentale et pour les etudes de terrain, les deux auteures soutiennent l’importance de demarches d’intervention interdisciplinaires : l’interet de ce type de demarches – interdisciplinaires voire transdisciplinaires – porte sur la communication du risque vis-a-vis des publics concernes, sur la prevention du risque dans les zones inondables ainsi que sur les modalites visant a la valorisation de l’eau comme element constitutif et identitaire d’un territoire. En d’autres termes, l’article a pour objectif de montrer comment utiliser et exploiter l’experience de conception dans la gestion d’un projet de design sur les risques naturels avec l’apport de la semiotique.

Образы антиутопии -миф или реальность? Как осмыслить риски в области прогресса с позиций семиотики культуры? В статье мы предлагаем семиотический подход к этике отношений между человеком и продуктами искусственного интеллекта в литературном контексте. Литературная антиутопия начала XXI века строится по принципу «щупать будущее» (Шкловский) и одновременно «приглядываться к аналогичным событиям в прошлом» (Лотман). С точки зрения семиотики человек в антиутопии -это образ «мыслящего тростника»: способность к инновациям является его эволюционным преимуществом. Мысль человека сопоставима с геологической силой, и в этом смысле подход Юрия Лотмана продолжает интеллектуальную традицию Владимира Вернадского, от биосферы к семиосфере. Современные антиутопии Кадзуо Исигуро показывают нам общество будущего с разделением человеческих коллективов на «резервные» и «легитимные». Клонов и роботов предлагается рассматривать не как бездушные устройства, но как художественные произведения. Тексты антиутопий -основа для размышлений об этическом поведении человека будущего.

This work was developed through a qualitative research, conducted through interviews with secondary school science teachers of "Escola Estadual Aloysio da Costa Chaves", in order to investigate the concepts and process of inclusion of deaf students in their classes. According to the informations collected and analyzed in this study, science teachers define inclusion education as dignified and of high quality without distinction. However, we still need to overcome some discriminating resistance that still exists. Trained teachers have an important role to eliminate barriers in the process of inclusion, in the case of deaf students, lack of teachers capable of communicating fluently in the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), constitutes the major obstacle in this process.

The presented paper describes the collecting of data from different sources to build a collocation data set with the aim of compiling the first contemporary collocation dictionary for the Albanian language. The work is based (1) on the analysis of empirical data, i. e. linguistic corpora, using the computational methods and tools, as well as (2) on traditional dictionaries. As empirical data we use the AlCo (Albanian Text Corpus), the AlCoPress 2017-2019, N- Grams extracted from both, methods like Log-likelihood and Dice coefficient using the IMS Open Corpus Workbench (CWB) and the Corpus Query Processor, Web version (CQPweb). Despite the enormous support, an unsupervised automated compilation of a collocation dictionary of high quality, like those created by lexicographers, seems to be impossible without intervention. In this article, we argue for the benefits of combining large-scale analyses of visual materials currently pursued within digital humanities with insights from multimodality research, which is an emerging discipline that studies how human communication relies on appropriate combinations of expressive resources. We show that concepts developed within the field of multimodality research provide appropriate metadata schemes for various modes of expression in large corpora and datasets. We illustrate the proposed approach using a common mode of expression, diagrams, and analyse two recent multimodal diagram corpora using statistical and computational methods. Our results suggest that multimodally-motivated metadata schemes can provide a robust foundation for computational analyses of large corpora and datasets. Even if a corpus or dataset is not designed to support fullblown analyses of multimodal communication, our results imply that multimodality theory can still be used to impose tighter analytical control over a variety of visual materials.

Multimodality research has always shown a strong reliance on data. However, the field has primarily developed around more exploratory, descriptive, and interpretative work on smaller data sets -as suggested by results we present from a meta-study of contributions to three multimodality-close international journals (Social Semiotics, Visual Communication, Multimodal Communication). Framed by a discussion of the qualitative-quantitative dichotomy and a deliberately broad working definition of empirical, we argue that it is not sample size or quantitative methods alone that support a more solid empirical grounding of multimodality research, but rather an explicit orientation to just how theory and analysis make contact with data. To this end, we propose five quality criteria of empirical practice, that is, completing the empirical feedback loop: from theory to data and back, ensuring objectivity, reliability, and validity in research, and acknowledging the inherent tentativeness of results. We thereby seek to chart paths for an appropriate and productive application of various empirical methods to novel (and supposedly familiar) forms of meaning-making in order to further strengthen the development of theory and methods in multimodality, and to encourage an even more intense exchange among the diverse communities of multimodalists.

In this paper, I will contend that Franz Kafka's use of language primarily follows a choral model. This stylistic choice matters in the context of Kafkian struggle to accomplish the purest expression of being in written form: since Kafka believes that language is bound to produce a false and unsuccessful representation of reality if it rests on defined grammatical uses, he borrows from choral dance a compositional model in order to implement an anti-grammatical fashion to write in, as the only option to make language enact truth. I will claim that a theoretical reconstruction of this model, and a discussion of the semiotic counterparts of its elements, also matters in the context of translation of Kafka's work. Translating Kafka properly would thus mean to convey the salient traits of his use of German to cope with the choral model, i.e. prosody, figural clusters, and harmony, and the overall tone of sublimity and comedy. Then, it would result in a prudent exercise of the target language, with special attention to its intersemiotic trasmutative relationship to choral gestures.

The purpose of this study is to find the meaning contained in the text Pasambahan Manjapuik Marapulai in Kenagarian Koto-Tinggi Subdistrict Baso Regency Agam Districtusing semiotic theory. This study uses semiotic theory proposed by Charle Sanders Pierce. This research looks at the signs contained in text form Pasambahan Manjapuik Marapulai symbol, index and icon. Data collected through library research, observation, interviews and some of the data taken from the internet. Data analysis was done descriptively. The results of these findings are the first, there are 31signs symbols, 5 marks icon and 3marks index. The results of this study are the signs contained in the text Pasambahan Manjapuik Marapulai. Next, look for the inner meaning behind these signs. The meaning contained in the only explicit but implied meaning of meaning and cultural semiotic meanings. Reflections on language and metalanguage highlight the systemic power of language to generate self-referentiality and meta-referentiality, even to the point where language can be used to negotiate the different contexts and codes within which language can function. These "indexial" and autopoietic capacities are often carried by unobtrusive (e.g., "phatic") linguistic functions and can frequently express themselves in fleetingly subtle verbal interactions. Hence the reduction of language to its referential function -as habitually happens when comparing human language to other information-processing organisms and systems -ignores what is probably its most powerful systemic characteristic. This insight -the power of language and its users to become self-reflexively metacontextual -should not be overlooked in contemporary posthumanist discussions problematizing the distinction between humans and other animals, or humans and artificially intelligent machines.

This chapter investigates the genealogy and evolution of the concept of upcycling, tracing its origins to the socioeconomic and legislative context of 1990s Germany. Initially introduced by Reiner Pilz during a critique of European recycling policies, upcycling emerged as a counterpoint to recycling practices that prioritize material recovery over preserving the labor and value embedded in products. Pilz's vision emphasized the transformation of waste into higher-value forms through remanufacturing, contrasting with European regulatory approaches centered on recycling as a means of waste minimization. The chapter highlights the term's engineering roots, particularly its alignment with German industrial methodologies and philosophical underpinnings, such as safeguarding human craftsmanship from destruction. Over time, the concept shifted from its technical origins to broader applications in design, fashion, and art, accompanied by a loss of its initial precision and industrial focus. This transition is explored through the lens of global influences, including Gunter Pauli's adaptation of the term in the context of the Blue Economy. The analysis underscores the semiotic and cultural dimensions of upcycling, critiquing its transformation into a fashionable yet abstract ideal often disconnected from practical and scalable techniques. Ultimately, the chapter calls for a return to rigor in conceptualizing and implementing upcycling as a means to promote sustainable resource use without succumbing to the commodification of environmental initiatives.

The main objective of this paper is to present a possible identity between the concepts of form and quality in the philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce , by means of his arguments in his Semiotics and in his Cosmology. In other words, our goal is to show that firstness consists in a form, constituting part of the nature of thirdness, inasmuch as the tendency to generalization or to the acquisition of habits was foreshadowed in the origin of the cosmos. Of an inductive nature, the step from the absolute nothing to a unity of qualities foreshadows an intelligible universe of a formal nature. This unity may already be considered a restriction of a potentiality of a greater strength present in that germinal nothing: the first category is configured, then, as being of a qualitative potential nature. The adjective "qualitative" presents the kind of restriction of potentiality to which we referred: such potential is of this or that kind. The second category, by its turn, arises from a chaos of feelings: it is not the interaction between those feelings that brings the second category to reality, but the mere manifestation of the feeling which is, by its turn, characterized as the momentary appearance of quality. This appearance is not potential, but actual. It is already a fact; it is already a restriction of the qualitative potentiality. Feeling while actuality and quality in its potential state foreshadow the origin of the other that presents itself: this other is, therefore, inscribed in the nature of quality and already presents the duality object (quality as potentiality) and represented object (depersonalized appearance of a quality). Finally, the tendency to generalization is recognized by means of the relations that the qualities establish among themselves: inasmuch as the appearance of one or more qualities was maintained insistent, such qualities began to establish relations among themselves, giving space to a logical structure that multiplies those relations themselves, allowing for the inductive formation of laws and more complex objects, but always indebted to the available material foreshadowed in the origin: qualities.

O principal objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma identidade possível entre os conceitos de forma e de qualidade na filosofia de Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914), por meio de seus argumentos em sua Semiótica e em sua Cosmologia. Franz Kafka’s drawings, published in a catalogue raisonné only in 2021, show a recurring element, that is the representation of human silhouettes in motion. This article explores the theme of the relationship between writing and picturing in Kafka and investigates these figures, as they appear in his universe of discourse and for the force of generalisation they have. Kafka’s silhouettes, subjected to gravity, to the others’ judgement, to self- esteem, to the conflicts between duty and will, provides, through a semiotic analysis, a better understanding of the individual and social problem of posture.

This essay offers a philosophical and pedagogical critique of large language models (LLMs) through a postcolonial lens. Rather than evaluating AI's technical capabilities, it explores how systems like Google Gemini and ChatGPT function as epistemic instruments of empire, tools that translate the world through a singular Anglophone code while presenting themselves as neutral or universal. Drawing from semiotic theory, postcolonial translation studies (Baer, Spivak), and the metaphor of the colonial classroom, the essay reveals how "multilingual" AI masks monologic reasoning, flattening cultural epistemes into translatability. It proposes a framework of decolonial literacy where AI is not embraced as tutor, but interrogated as intermediary-calling for pedagogical practices that treat the prompt as an ethical act and the algorithm as a site of ideological contestation.
